HALIFAX – Metro Transit workers in Halifax have voted to reject the municipality’s latest contract offer.
Without a contract, buses and ferries in the city could stop running as of Feb. 2.
Local 508 of the Amalgamated Transit Union represents 750 bus drivers, ferry crew, mechanics and other workers.
Eddie Robar, director of Metro Transit, says the municipality is willing to go back to the bargaining table in hopes of securing a deal.
The municipality says some 96,000 people use the transit service on a daily basis.
Metro Transit is the largest transit service in Atlantic Canada.
