Haligonian races to Top 50 finish in Boston Marathon

Halifax native Rami Bardeesy turned in a 42nd-place finish in the 113th annual Boston Marathon yesterday.

Bardeesy, one of more than 100 participants from Nova Scotia, was sixth in the 40-and-older masters class with a time of 2:28:57, more than three minutes faster than last year.

Dartmouth’s Denise Robson was the top Nova Scotian female and was second overall to Bardeesy. Robson, who holds the Canadian record for the top marathon time in the masters class, ran the 42.2-kilometre course in 2:48:15 to place 21st among all women and fifth in the 40-and-older category.

Colleen De Reuck of Boulder, Colo., was the No. 1 finisher in Robson’s age group with a time of 2:35:37.

Robson edged out Harry Neynens of Enfield. Neynens, a former Blue Nose champion, was 447th in 2:49:50.

Leah Jabbour of Clayton Park was second among Nova Scotian females and 107th overall in 3:05:33.
