It’s a simple concept, but a truly great hamburger is hard to find. Luckily I found one at the Hamilton Street Grill in Yaletown.

The restaurant won the inaugural “Yaletown’s Best Burger” competition this past Canada Day. After tasting it I can see why the panel of judges chose this one. Seven ounces of beef with blue cheese butter in the middle of the patty topped with port-marinated mushrooms, white cheddar and truffle mayonnaise ($14).

I’m usually wary of burgers that troll the line between delicious and pretentious but this one falls squarely into the “delicious” category.

When it comes to fries, I like them mealy on the inside. These were crispy all the way through, but if you like that, more power to you. Most seats also have a great view of TVs that will undoubtedly show the last two World Cup matches this weekend. Make sure you go order up the hamburger special and set your mouths to “water.”
