It’s been rumored for months that ABC’s The View co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck was leaving the show. However, those rumors were confirmed yesterday after she announced not only her departure from the show, but that she is joining the Fox News Channel in September as a co-host on the network’s Fox & Friends.

“I’m not the first person to sit in this chair and I will certainly not be the last person to sit in this chair,” Hasslebeck said on The View. “The past 10 years have been nothing short of extraordinary. I wholeheartedly wish the next person or co-hosts that sit here an extraordinary set of years to come of their own.”

Hasselbeck will be replacing current co-host Gretchen Carlson, who will launch her own daytime talk show in the upcoming Fall season.

Though Barbara Walters cleared up claims of Hasselbeck being fired in March, her departure speaks to the revamping of The View, which has seen a decline in ratings during recent seasons.

Hasselbeck is just one of the many changes that are occurring on the show. Both Joy Behar and Barbara Walters announced retirement from the show following the current season. The two are the only co-hosts who have been on The View since it began in 1997.

While co-hosts Sherri Shepherd and Whoopi Goldberg, there has been no word on who will replace the three open slots.
