Help pouring in for family after fire devastates home

Offers of donations have begun pouring in for the Cowie Hill family who lost their home by fire early Wednesday morning.

The Salvation Army Family Resource Centre in Spryfield is main base for those looking to assist. Lieut. Rob Jeffery, a pastor at the resource centre, said calls of help started coming in soon after the fire happened and continued throughout the day.

“Most are just offers of help right now,” Jeffery said. “It’s been both companies and individuals.”

Jeffrey said they were accepting offers of donations all day Wednesday, and will do so again on Monday. The Sobey’s in Spryfield is also accepting monetary donations, with CTV reporting last night they gave the family a $500 gift certificate for food as well.

After the fire happened, the Canadian Red Cross immediately came to the scene to provide the family with emergency accommodations and food, along with replacement clothing, blankets and personal care items.
