Herd hopefuls get off to scrappy start at camp

It seems Eric Louis-Seize and Ben MacAskill took the phrase “fighting for an over-age spot” too literally.

The two 20-year-olds, both chasing the same job at the Halifax Mooseheads, chucked the knuckles in the first fight at training camp last night at Cole Harbour Place, late in the second period of the second intra-squad contest of the day.

It’s the first time fighting has been allowed in several years, and three more scraps ensued in the third.

“We talked to each other before and we said we’d probably do that and spark something up,” Louis-Seize said. “It turned out that it did and we’re pretty happy about that.”

Gabriel Desjardins, a sophomore forward, and Charles Bety, a 19-year-old returnee, scored twice each in the morning game to lift Team B to a 6-4 win over Team A.

In the evening game, reigning team MVP Tomas Knotek and rookie Carl Gelinas scored twice each to help Team C deal Team A its second loss of the day 5-4.

Returning forward Guillaume Pelletier scored three times for Team A yesterday, while top scorer Yuri Cheremetiev and tryout Matt Myers chipped in with two apiece.
