Here’s why the Gaines decided to end ‘Fixer Upper”

Fixer Upper Chip and Joanna Gaines

For those of you wondering why, exactly, Chip and Joanna Gaines decided to say goodbye to the world of HGTV — and their hit show “Fixer Upper” — well. It’s all pretty standard, to be honest.

“We gave everything we had to this show — the beautiful homes and those sweet families — but this just felt like the right time to catch our breath for a bit,” Joanna, 39, tells People.

Basically, these two were just sooooo wildly successful. Like, too wildly successful. And they couldn’t take it! In an epic plot twist, it turned out that filming 11 months out of the year, while also juggling their Texas-based Magnolia businesses — including a real estate company, a retail store named Silos, wallpaper and furniture lines, a quarterly magazine, luxury vacation rentals, an upcoming restaurant and a product line for Target (and I’m literally exhausted just writing that) — well. It began to wear on them.

“Nobody told us that that [the grueling production schedule] was unique,” says Chip, 42. “Nobody told us that that was a little bit irrational.” Seems like common sense, but OK!

“We really want to focus on this break and take a step back to let this all soak in,” Joanna continues. “Regardless of what the future holds, we are hopeful for what God has for us and our family in this next season.”

Well, fine. I suppose you all will always have the reruns.
