Comfort with class accentuates the townhomes of Terracotta Village, the Heathwood Homes community at Mavis Road and Highway 407 in Brampton.
“The idea of welcoming, comfortable, fresh and bright was really what I wanted,” said Marlene Solomon, the designer namesake behind Marlene Solomon Design, which fashioned the community’s Sicilia model townhome. “Coming into a spring market, I wanted to have that clean, fresh feeling, but warm, calm colours.”
Buttery cream colours act as a base for the home’s palette, accented by persimmon throughout.
“Usually, I take one base colour and just use small accents. With that cream, virtually any colour will go with it,” said Solomon.
The townhome’s versatility is one characteristic Solomon said allows it to generate an open, spacious, comfortable feeling.
“In the fall, you can go with warmer tones, and in the summer you can go with cooler tones. Because the furnishings are without patterns for the most part, all you have to do is change pillows and you can change the whole colour scheme,” she said.
But the contrast provided by the dark hardwood floor throughout is one constant element Solomon said was intended to maintain the townhome’s relaxed elegance.
“I wanted to have the traditional elegance of a large scale home, but I wanted it to be done in a very relaxed fashion,” said Solomon.
“The house will be able to function nicely for casual life as well as formal entertaining.”
That multifunctional appeal is one evident in the townhome’s main floor setup, which fuses kitchen and dining room, opening up the rest of the floor, said Solomon.
“Because it’s basically a kitchen and living room all on one floor, I took the opportunity to eliminate the dining room out of the living room section, (making) the living room larger and able to seat at least eight to 10 people.”
