Calgary police are notifying the public of a high-risk offender who was released into the Calgary area yesterday, who police are concerned may reoffend.
Acting Staff Sgt. Stephen Johnston, from the high-risk offender program, said police have issued the notice due to the offender’s history of sexual violence involving a knife.
“The circumstances surrounding the sexual assault and the incident itself bears quite a warning of his potential,” said Johnston.
Johnston said that the crime had a great impact on the community of Kamloops, B.C., and the victim.
Norman Eli Larue, 27, of Kamloops has been released from the Bowden Institution after completing a 5½-year federal prison sentence.
Larue was convicted of aggravated sexual assault, theft over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police, all of which occurred in the Kamloops area.
Larue is subject to a 10-year long-term supervision order, with conditions imposed by the National Parole Board, including a curfew.
Johnston said it is believed that Larue has acquaintances here.
Larue will be supervised on an ongoing basis.
Calgary police know where he is living but are not divulging his location.
