High-scoring Stanley joins Halifax

The Halifax Rainmen have bolstered their roster with one of the Premier Basketball League’s top scorers.

The Rainmen cut ties with recently-acquired forward Marlowe Currie on Thursday — before he even played a game — and signed Cameron Stanley, ninth in PBL scoring with the Buffalo Stampede with 21.3 points per game.

The six-foot-seven inch forward was unhappy with the Stampede and negotiated his release earlier this week.

“We were interested in him at the beginning of the year and we kind of waited too long to make a decision and we lost him to Buffalo,” said Rainmen owner Andre Levingston.

“His agent called and said, ‘Are you interested in Cameron Stanley?’ And I said, ‘I’ll take him — yesterday.’”

Levingston called Stanley an “athletic scorer.”

Currie couldn’t get his passport so the Rainmen voided last week’s trade with the Manchester Millrats, getting back their 2011 second-round draft choice and “other considerations.”
