NEW YORK – Liz Lemon’s brief flirtation with the Ladies Who Lunch left her with a shiner.
On NBC’s “30 Rock” on Thursday, Lemon was forced to take time off due to a sexual harassment complaint. It was a tough thing for a workaholic to deal with.
“Right now I should be standing in a toilet stall so nobody will bother me during lunch,” she said. “God, I miss it.”
While she was away, Kenneth the page develops a crush on a dancer he’s never talked with. After Jenna Maroney is mistakenly identified as dead during an awards show, network chief Jack Donaghy gets the bright idea that she should pretend it’s real to sell her apparently unwatchable TV movie loosely based – very loosely – on the Janis Joplin story.
If she can fake her death for a few weeks, maybe Donaghy can sell the movie to a desperate bidder. Maroney ruins it, of course.
The jokes, as usual, ran fast and furious, with our favourite involving Alec Baldwin’s Donaghy and Tina Fey’s Lemon.
Trying to softly explain her absence from work, Lemon said she was on “humanity leave.”
“Good God, what Indigo Girls song is that from?” Donaghy grumbled.
In her apartment building, the usually absent Lemon strikes up a conversation with some ladies who also aren’t working. Their day is filled with exercise classes, spa visits and plenty of wine. Why go anywhere else?
As soon as she starts to get bored with her new friends, they tell her the real reason they have daily get-togethers: They’re a fight club. Liz doesn’t have a clear enough path to the door, so fists fly before she can get out of the room.
The next day, she was all smiles back at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
“I’m back, nerds,” are her parting words.
