Hogweeds seen in Ottawa

Giant hogweeds have been spotted in Ottawa, and residents are being advised to keep their distance.

Two of the huge poisonous plants have already been located and removed from properties in the city.

Sap from the plant can cause serious skin inflammation and can cause blisters, discolouration, and scars in sunlight. If the sap gets in a person’s eyes it can cause blindness.

The weed can grow up to 5.5 metres tall.
