Metro held our first-ever holiday party last night to benefit Toys for Tots and New York Cares, and our readers made it a smashing success.
Dozens of New Yorkers came out to party at Copia, a lounge/restaurant on East 53rd Street. More than 70 readers e-mailed us beforehand to say they would be coming. And come they did.
“I know how important Christmas is for kids. If my money is going to go somewhere, I’d rather it go here,” said partygoer Desiree Defreitas.
We’ve collected nearly 400 toys so far, and the gifts keep coming.
Do you want to make a needy child’s season bright? Metro is buying gifts for New York Cares and Toys for Toys, but you only have a few days left to donate.

The U.S. Marines who run Toys for Tots are coming to our office Friday to pick up the gifts.
