Hot enough for you? Summer heat makes late appearance

The heat is on in Halifax.

In a summer that has been a lot about rain and cool temperatures, the past two days of hot weather have been welcome relief for those left wondering when the 30-degree weather would finally find us.

“I’m loving it. I’m loving it. Bring it on,” said Paula MacPherson, who brought her two children from Wolfville to the Halifax waterfront yesterday to see Theodore Tugboat.

Inland temperatures hovered around the 30-degree mark both Saturday and Sunday, with today expected to bring more of the same, according to Environment Canada.

And the rest of the week looks hot too, with Environment Canada forecasting sunny weather and temperatures in the mid-to-high 20s.

“Yes and no. I prefer it over the rain,” Hannah Saunders said of whether she’s enjoying this heatwave. The Halifax resident spent the weekend on the waterfront working eight hours each day for Tall Ship Silva. She made sure not to get overheated by taking breaks in the shade and getting drinks off the boat.

“I think if I wasn’t working in it, I wouldn’t complain at all,” she added.

The waterfront was packed with people in the early afternoon yesterday, with some carrying umbrellas to keep the hot sun off them, while one mother poured water over her son’s head to keep him cool.

“A little too hot today,” said Moncton’s Rick Joyce, who was in town for the final day of the Halifax International Buskers Festival. “It’s better than rain, though.”
