Hot games for 2008

Are you ready for a new revolution?

How about four? Or maybe five?

Konami Digital Entertainment, the company behind some of the most popular franchises in the red-hot gaming industry, offered up a sneak preview of some of their hottest new games for 2008 at an event in San Francisco this week and Metro got your Canadian-exclusive scoop.

Leading the way from Konami this year is the all-new game, Rock Revolution, a drum-focused social game in the same vein as bestsellers Guitar Hero and Rock Band.

“Konami has been a pioneer in music games for a long time,” said associate producer Keith Matejka, pointing to titles like Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) and Karaoke Revolution.

“This, for us, was the logical next step.”

“Rock Revolution, at its core, is the ultimate drum experience. We’ve got this fantastic peripheral that has six pads and a pedal that was designed to simulate playing rock drums.”

Konami is also celebrating the 10th anniversary of DDR with three different new games — one each for Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 2 — and the strong hint of a new arcade version.

“People can expect something new for the 10th anniversary,” said producer Hiro Chiwata.

“I can’t say what, but I’m sure you can guess.”

Also revealed this week was Castlevania: Order Of Ecclesia for Nintendo DS, the latest in a hugely popular franchise that is now in its 22nd year, and media got a first look at highly anticipated new titles like Silent Hill: Homecoming, Hellboy: Science Of Evil and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots, which is expected to be the biggest game of the year for the PlayStation 3 when it hits store shelves on June 12.

Keep your eye on Metro for more on these games soon.
