Hot plate: Saloniki’s the Herc

While it was a sad summer day when Chef Jody Adams left her ubiquitous Harvard Square restaurant Rialto to focus on new projects (resulting in its subsequent closing), we needn’t to look far to find her touch in the kitchen. You could find her downtown at Trade, still successfully slinging flatbreads and bright, flavorful small plates, and soon at Porto in Back Bay.Or more recently, her new fast-casual endeavor,Saloniki.Located in Fenway, across the streetfrom a Chipotle (it’s depressing, really), Adams’s Greek concept churns out mouthwatering made-to-order gyros, salads and rice plates.

The Herc, a honey-braised pulled pork shoulder stuffed into a freshly pressed pita with salty, creamy whipped feta and crisp Greek fries, is my new go-to. A stone’s throw from the Regal Fenway Theaters, a quick order of the Herc (and some extra Greek fries, topped with oregano and grated cheese and a side of tzatziki for dipping) happily provides the same pre-film food coma satisfaction as a once beloved carnitas burrito with extra guac. Gulp it down with Jody’s Lemonade, a house beer or a Greek frappe, and tuck in a package of the Baklava Crips for a mid-movie snack.Saloniki, 4 Kilmarnock Street, Boston, 617-266-0001,salonikigreek.com
