Just as the city’s beloved bicycle sharing system turns one year old, the eco-friendly transit system announces it will add 400 new bikes to its fleet, bringing the total number up to 1,000.
To keep up with the addition, the bike sharing service will also add 30 new stations in Cambridge, Brookline and Somerville.
Hubway currently has 61 kiosks with over 600 bikes in its fleet.
On Tuesday, Hubway supporters threw a birthday bash inside the “Let’s Talk About Bikes” exhibit at the Boston Society of Architects space on Congress Street, where bike lovers were treated to free “bike powered” smoothies, free bike valet parking, music, and access to the exhibition.
The bicycle sharing service launched in Boston on July 28, 2011.
