Hunting a torture suspect

Calgary and Regina police have issued Canada-wide arrest warrants in the case of a former Calgary man who was dumped at a Regina hospital starving, burned and with parts of his tongue and lips cut off.

Calgary police are seeking Dustin Ward Paxton, 30, of no fixed address, on charges of aggravated assault, sexual assault and forcible confinement after a four-month joint investigation into the torture of Dustin Lafortune.

Calgary police Det. Doug Crippen said the victim was dropped off at the Regina hospital on April 16 and has been there ever since, recovering from physical injuries and what his family describes as amnesia and brain damage.

Supporters took to the victim’s Facebook page with positive comments, including, “So happy (to) hear about the arrest warrant but I don’t understand why it took this long.”

His family says Lafortune told them he was beaten by a former roommate in Calgary and they claim an individual has bragged about drugging and torturing Lafortune. Crippen confirmed there were periods where Lafortune was held against his will.
