Husband killed woman found inside car with throat slashed: NYPD

Police have charged the husband of a woman who was found dead in a parked car in Brooklyn Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, police charged the woman’s common-law-husband, 55-year-old BeresfordAshley,of Brooklyn, with murder and criminal possession of a weapon, News 12 Brooklyn reported.

Officers found 45-year-old Karen Ashley on Tuesday night in the driver’s seat of a gold 2004 Nissan Maxima on Blake Avenue near Drew Street in East New York just before midnight, police said. The 45-year-old woman, a nurse, was unconscious and unresponsive with a slash wound across her throat.

EMS pronounced her dead at the scene.

BeresfordAshley turned himself in to police at Brooklyn’s 78th Precinct station in Park Slope with a cut hand and blood on his clothes,New York Daily News reported.He told police he had gotten in a fight with his common-law-wife.

Diane Russel, a friend with whom Karen Ashley was staying, said the relationship between the Ashleys was violent and Karen Ashley was trying to leave him,

“Every time he would come, he’d beg,” Russel added. “So she always tried to give him a second chance.”

Russel said her roommate called to her after she was attacked. That’s when Russel said she sawBeresfordAshleyspeeding away in his car, the Daily News reported.

“There were signs. But, even though they were signs, I didn’t know he would go that far,” Russel told the Daily News.

A second witness, Betty Pratt, told the Daily News she sawBeresfordAshleyhiding in the backseat of his common-law-wife’s Nissan.

“She was on the phone. He just cut her throat,” Pratt said. “She didn’t know he was in the back seat at first.”
