Huskies eyeing strong 6-game run

The Saint Mary’s Huskies are hoping the worst is behind them.

Saint Mary’s is coming off its most lopsided football loss in almost seven years — a 45-7 pasting at the hands of powerhouse Laval — and is off to just its second 0-2 start in 15 seasons.

But there are no more Laval-calibre opponents on their schedule, with Atlantic University Sport rivals on deck for their final six games.

“We’ve got the AUS to finish it out,” said Huskies defensive lineman Ryan King.

“It’s obviously really (lousy) having an 0-2 start but … we can finish the season 6-2, we just have to keep playing hard.”

Cutting down on penalties, establishing a run game and dropping fewer passes will help their cause.

So will building around the quick feet and strong arm of new quarterback Micah Brown, dynamic return man Jahmeek Taylor and a defence that had five sacks against Laval.

“It’s a rough start, but it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish,” said Brown.
