Ideas rolling in for St. Patrick’s Island

Calgarians have a wide variety of suggestions for how to best utilize 30 acres of green space that sits in the Bow River.

Over the last few months, the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation has been asking Calgarians what they want to see done to St. Patrick’s Island.

In addition to online surveys, CMLC has set up stations at various events where Calgarians can come out and sketch their vision of the island.

“There’s a multitude of ways that we’re connecting with the public in Calgary to hear their thoughts and opinions,” said Susan Veres, communications manager for CMLC.

Veres said there have been a variety of suggestions ranging from requests for festival space to playgrounds and botanical gardens. “We would, in hearing from all Calgarians, expect that there’s going to be many different view points on how the island should be used.”

She said CMLC will use the suggestions to identify trends and make plans for the island.

CMLC will be setting up at Sunfest in Inglewood on July 31 to receive more suggestions.
