Inquiry hears RCMP are trained Tasers not fatal

RCMP officers are trained that Tasers are not fatal, the Braidwood Inquiry into the death of Polish immigrant Robert Dziekanski heard Thursday.

RCMP use-of-force expert Cpl. Gregg Gillis testified that there is no medical evidence that Tasers cause death or disrupt breathing or the heart, CBC News Online reports.

Taser training warns about injuries like pulled muscles and ligaments or possible stress fractures, he said.

Dziekanski died at Vancouver’s airport in October 2007 following a confrontation with four Mounties in which he was stunned multiple times.
