We sample Ray Bear’s inviting new restaurant at a window table with a harbour view. The service is exemplary. The lunch menu is substantial, and includes salads, soups, burgers, sandwiches, pasta, pizza, steak, ribs and seafood.

My pal tries the Mix Burger, a large, perfectly-broiled burger topped with jalapeno Havarti cheese, local double-smoked bacon from Outlton’s, guacamole, red pepper, spicy mayo, tomato and lettuce.

It’s tastier than your typical burger, served on a fresh bun and accompanied by a huge pile of home-cut fries.

My Valley Pulled Pork Sandwich is sumptuous. The pork is tender and cooked in a flavourful barbecue sauce that is neither too sweet nor too sharp.

For dessert, the Gingerbread French Toast with caramelized pineapple and vanilla ice cream — oh, my. Like the restaurant itself, it’s a real treat.
