That an Iron Chef has a nickname at all is a bit strange, but so is the fact that Masaharu Morimoto hasn’t ventured much beyond expanding his sushi empire.

But there’s nothing hotter in Japanese food than ramen right now, with local and overseas outfits opening in the city almost weekly, and so Morimoto is venturing into the world of noodle soups with the opening of Momosan Ramen & Sake (342 Lexington Ave.) this Friday, April 8.

The restaurant bears the chef’s nickname, and the food will be familiar, too: traditional tonkotsu and chicken ramen, available in two sizes, as well as appetizers like braised pork belly bao and the chef’s take on the humble pork-and-chive gyoza and an extensive regional sake list.
