It’s easy being green at exhibit

With 55 exhibitors, from vegetarian cooking demonstrations to environmentally friendly building materials, the weekend’s third annual Energy Ottawa Ecosphere Environmental Fair offered many shades of green.

“There’s so many things you can do, there’s so many things to learn about the environment, so this always helps people to find different choices and find out new things they can do to better our quality of life,” said Eric Ferland, president of Project Ecosphere and organizer of the fair.

The City of Ottawa challenged residents to take a water quality quiz and distributed free water efficiency kits for households. Waste Management provided a drop-off for old computers to be recycled.

Engineering students from the Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal showed off Esteban 5, their solar-powered car, which reached a top speed of 96 km/h at last year’s World Solar Challenge in Australia.
