Jailed man taken to hospital

A 47-year-old Dartmouth man is in hospital after he was found unresponsive in a jail cell yesterday.

Police are not releasing the man’s name. He was arrested without incident at 2:40 p.m. Tuesday for breaching conditions of a no-contact court order.

“He was brought back and placed into cells and there was a medical concern that was brought to our attention,” said Const. Brian Palmeter with Halifax Regional Police. “He was brought to the hospital and released back into our custody at about 6:38 p.m.”

A guard was doing a regular check at 2:30 a.m. when the man was found.

“EHS was requested and first aid was administered and he was taken to the hospital where he remains. His condition is considered life-threatening.”

Not an injury

Const. Brian Palmeter said the condition wasn’t an injury — self-inflicted or otherwise.
