When you have visitors in town, you have to take them to taste our most famous street food.
So, I took my sister to Japadog.

It’s worth going to the retail location. They offer a menu the carts just can’t.

Like what, you ask?

How about a larger selection that includes the Yakiniku Rice ($6.25), a pork dog wrapped in a flattened bed of sticky rice topped with grilled teriyaki beef and lettuce.

It tastes fantastic but you should break out the cutlery for this one. I ended up with a lap full of meat when I tried to eat it hot dog style.

A few bucks extra gets you a combo including fries -— Japadog style.

There are four different flavour combinations. I got the butter and shoyu ($2.39). Picture fries topped with melted butter, sprinkled with a soy sauce-powdered flavouring and tossed in a paper bag. Like movie theatre popcorn but with fries.

The result is total heaven. The fries are salty, savoury, a little sweet and buttery.

My sister had the classic terimayo beef dog.

Her review? “Weird but good.” Indeed.
