Jets fan perfectly sums up his team’s quarterback situation

It’s been a long go for New York Jets fans since the good ol’ days of Joe Namath as one of the most cursed organizations in sports has failed to have a franchise quarterback for well over three decades. And on Sunday in a game that was the epitome of the need for a franchise quarterback, one fan perfectly summed up the Jets situation under center for the last quarter of a century.

Photographer Manish Gosalia of JetsInsider.com snapped a photo of an unknown fan who had duct-taped the names of the team’s starting quarterbacks since his birth, this on the day that second-year quarterback Bryce Petty was given the start over Ryan Fitzpatrick.

The Jets lost to the Los Angeles Rams 9-6 on Sunday when Gosalia took the photo.

The best part of Gosalia’s photo is that the list of names continues on and names such as Brett Favre, Mark Sanchez, Geno Smith or Fitzpatrick can’t even be seen. Presumably, this fan’s jersey had to be an XXL to get all these legendary quarterbacks on there.

The list begins with Neil O’Donnell, who had his first start with the Jets in 1996.

“I’ve been a Jets fan for over 30 years; it is amazing to see so many quarterback names who never took us far…today another QB gets his first start,” Gosalia said when asked his thoughts upon seeing the fan.

For the record, in his first NFL start Petty was 19-for-32 for 163 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

He became the 48th quarterback and 52nd player in franchise history to throw for a touchdown.
