Gone is No. 62 for New York Jets defensive end Leonard Williams, the first round pick now switching to No. 92.

After being assigned No. 62 in trainingcamp, Williams is finally shedding that number for one more fitting for a defensive lineman. He has picked No. 92, something he tells Metro is very exciting as it makes him feel more official.

The last prominent Jets player to wear that number was Shaun Ellis, who had a pretty nice career in green and white.

“It’s 92,” Williams told Metro first on Monday afternoon. He went on to explain why he went with that number.

“Well there’s only 93 and 95 available and I kind of got used to 62 a little bit.”

In high school as a defensive lineman, he first wore No. 7.In college at USC, Williams wore No. 94. That No. 92 is what he’ll be wearing out of the tunnel this Sunday when he makes his NFL debut against the Cleveland Browns.

“I’m really excited. Playing in preseason, I was a little nervous but now I’m ready for it,”Williamssaid. “Can’t wait to be out there.”

There is more big news from the rookie first rounder this week. Williams revealed two weeks ago that he passed his driver’s test and now has a license (he never needed a car while in college). Now he’s set to add a ride, his first ever vehicle.

“I’m getting a [Jeep] Rubicon,” Williams said with a huge smile. “It’s great, it has a [sound] system and everything.”
