The Jets’ quest for the Super Bowl is also proving to be a lucrative boost for New York City sports retailers.
“We’ve had lots of people coming in, especially women. All of a sudden there’s a lot of women Jets fans,” said Darius Bess, a manager at Modell’s on Chambers Street. “I’d say we have 150 people a day coming in or calling if we have certain gear in stock; [Jets cornerback Darrelle] Revis jerseys are the most popular.”
“Yesterday I sold nothing but Jets from 10 in the morning ’till 9 at night,” said Robert Zapatro, a cashier at the Modell’s on East 42nd Street.
