Job growth in New York to slow in 2013

This year is expected to be a slow one in terms of job growth, but employment opportunities will pick back up in 2014, according to a recent report from the city’s Independent Budget Office.

The IBO predicted an increase of 50,900 jobs in 2013, nearly half of which will come from the education and health care sectors.

The number of city jobs will then go up by about 73,400 per year from 2014 to 2016, the IBO reported.

It said that over 480,000 payroll jobs are expected to be gained from 2009 to 2016.

“This would constitute the most robust city employment expansion since 1950, when these records begin,” the IBO said.
