The city was on edge Monday as the bodies of two men were discovered separately in the Charles River and on Massachusetts Avenue, however neither belonged to a Boston graduate student who has been missing since last week.
This morning, another body was pulled from the Charles River, with a chain and cinder blocks attached to its feet however police have yet to say whether it belongs to 23-year-old Jonathan Dailey, who disappeared from his home on Gardner Street in Allston sometime after Tuesday night.
Today, Dailey’s older sister Robyn Hoffman said via email: “This entire experience has been emotionally gut-wrenching, and today’s news only increases this. We do not currently have any information as to the identity of the body found in the Charles River. We will release another statement as soon as we get full confirmation either way from the Boston Police.”
Hoffman went on to say that a $5,000 reward is offered to anyone who can help lead to the safe return of Dailey. She has also said that the search for Dailey has focused on the Boston metro area, as well as outlying parks, shelters, bus and train stations, medical centers, and other “highly trafficked areas.”
“We are not letting any tips or suggestions go unnoticed,” she said.
Hoffman said her brother last worked on Sunday, Sept. 30, and was not scheduled to work again until Friday morning.
“We became very concerned and knew it was serious as soon as he did not show up for
work Friday,” she said.
Family friend Andy McMillan described Dailey as “an intelligent, sweet guy,” and “a talented musician.”
“He’s private and somewhat of an introvert but well liked,” McMillan said in an email to Metro. “To my knowledge, he hasn’t disappeared for an extended period of time before. The Dailey’s are a really close family and tend to stay in touch regularly. That sort of behavior wouldn’t go unnoticed.”
McMillan said he is “staying positive and just hoping that he shows up soon.”
A spokeswoman for Boston Police said today that she did not have any updates on the investigation, and would not comment on how many, if any, leads were coming into the department.
“Right now it is still an active investigation. There are detectives handling this, and we have it on Facebook, Twitter and the (Boston Police Department) blog,” she said, adding that she encourages Boston residents to look at Dailey’s picture and to contact police with any information.
Who he is:
He is described as 5-feet 9-inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds. He has brown eyes, black hair and has a black stripe tattoo on his left bicep.
According to his family, Dailey is a second-year student at the Boston Architectural College, and he works in Cambridge. His sister said he was taking the semester off for financial reasons.
Family members said he had no history of mental illness, no history of drugs or alcohol and no girlfriend.
What’s left behind:
Dailey left his computer, backpack, sleeping bag, clothes, phone chargers, passport, drivers license and eyeglasses at home. Bank records show no activity. He did not have a car in Boston.
