Joy Behar blackface video: Twitter reacts, fans call for The View host to be fired

Joy Behar

Joy Behar is in hot water after a video resurfaced from 2016 where The View host admitted to wearing blackface when she was 29 years old to a Halloween party. Once the video went viral this week, many fans of the Today Show called for Behar to be fired, some citing that when Megyn Kelly spoke up with her opinion on blackface she was fired so it would only be fair.

Fans are calling for Joy Behar to be fired after blackface video resurfaces

In the clip that resurfaced from the 2016 episode of The View, Behar told her co-hosts that when she was 29 she attended a Halloween party dressed as a “beautiful African woman”, also saying that her makeup was “a little bit darker than my skin,” but the curls in her hair were all real. The show even showed a picture of Behar that night.

At the time, her co-hosts and audience laughed at the story, but then Raven Symone did ask Behar “Joy, are you black? Are you my auntie, Joy? Do you have tanning lotion on?”

After the video resurfaced this week many fans began to compare Megyn Kelly to Joy Behar. “Megyn Kelly was fired from her show for asking a hypothetical question about blackface. Joy Behar actually wore blackface, and admitted it, and showed a picture of it on TV, yet she still has her job,” one person tweeted.

Megyn Kelly was fired from NBC after she made controversial comments regarding her opinion on blackface. “What is racist? You get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person that puts on white face for Halloween.” Kelly continued, “that was okay when I was a kid as long as you were dressing like a character.” The former Today host later added, “I can’t keep up with the number of people we’re offending just by being normal people these days.”

Kelly sent out an apology after severe backlash, including from her former co-hosts. Once Kelly’s show, Megyn Kelly Today, was canceled she reached an agreement with NBC where the network paid her $69 million (what she would have made if she stuck with her 3-year contract.)

It’s not clear what will happen with Behar, although some fans are adamant about her firing, neither Joy Behar or The View has yet to comment on the issue. Meanwhile, tweets continue to flood timelines.
