Katy Perry tried to pray the gay away one time

Katy Perry kissed a girl and she not only liked it — it made her curious about her sexuality.

During her acceptance speech for the National Equality Award at the Humans Rights Campaign Gala, the pop singer — who became famous for the song I kissed a girl — detailed her experience with conversion groups as a teenager.

“I speak my truths and I paint my fantasies into these bite size pop songs,” she said. “For instance, ‘I kissed a girl and I liked it.’ Truth be told, I did more than that.”

She went on to say: “How was I supposed to reconcile that with a gospel singing girl raised in youth groups that were pro-conversion camps?” Perry continued. “What I did know was I was curious and even then I knew sexuality wasn’t… black and white.”

Perry says she’s glad to have started a conversation and that the world “seemed curious enough to sing along.” I mean, we’ll all sing along to something catchy enough, but sure.
