Draft season has not gone well for Knicks fans.

In May, the team fell from No. 2 to No. 4 in the NBA Draft Lottery. Thursday night, New York fans showered Kristaps Porzingis with boos at the 2015 NBA Draft at Barclays Center, upset that the team selected a relative unknown.

Since Pau Gasol in 2001, 16 European players have been picked in the lottery range of the draft. None of those 16 players have become All-Stars in the league.

Porzingis was about the only person in the building happy to hear Adam Silver say the Knicks had nabbed him.

“It’s my dream to play for the New York Knicks,” Porzingis told ESPN. “Just an amazing opportunity to play in New York, a basketball city … Those people that don’t know me, they may think I’m soft, European. But I’m different.”

The Latvian big man does have all the tools to become a legit NBA player. He’s an outstanding shooter, an improving rim protector and has drawn some generous comparisons to Dirk Nowitzki.

As expected, Kentucky center Karl-Anthony Towns was the top overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves, but it didn’t take long for things to get out-of-whack as the Lakers took Ohio State guard D’Angelo Russell at No. 2 overall.

Emmanuel Mudiay, who was linked to the Knicks early and often, went to Denver at No. 7.
