Knife-wielding clowns threaten New Yorkers

New Yorkers have proven again and again that nothing can phase them — but even the wave of recent clown sightings has some seemingly terrified.

There have been at least two reports of knife-wielding clowns in the city this week.

A 30-year-old Queens man told the New York Daily News that he saw a 6-foot tall clown outside his window as he was about to go to bed Monday just before midnight.

The clown had a steak knife in his hand, and “started giggling and laughing and dancing around,” Ioannis Markesinis claimed. Markesinis pulled down the shades of his Flushing home on 78th Street near 19th Road in fear, and the clown ran off before he could grab his phone and get a photo.

“I thought all of this stuff about clowns you see on TV and in the papers was some sick joke, but now I’m thinking maybe this is for real,” Markesinis told the Daily News. “At first you think — clowns… ha-ha, laugh laugh, but once he takes out a steak knife, you know it’s real.”

He has reported the incident to police.

Before the Queens sighing made headlines, it was reported Wednesday that a clown, also carrying a knife, threatened a teen on the Upper East Side.

A person reportedly wearing a clown mask blocked the door of a 6 train Wednesday afternoon, blocking people from exiting. When a 16-year-old boy pushed past, the clown allegedly chased him up the stairs of the 96th Street station while flashing a kitchen knife.

The boy escaped without injury and the person wearing the mask is still unknown.

The NYPD has warned the public since the rash of clown sightings that started this summer in the southeast and has since spread up the East Coast to not believe the hype and to not take part in it.
