More than a decade after bursting onto the scene as one of the “Spice Girls of Tennis,” Anna Kournikova is no longer a part of the women’s pro tour.
She, however, remains a big draw on the World TeamTennis circuit, where her St. Louis Aces took on the Boston Lobsters last night in Middleton.
“I think [WTT] is an exciting format for the fans and I’d like to see it get bigger,” the 29-year-old Russian said. “It’s exciting to play as a team in front of home crowds … and it’s a really family-friendly event.”
Kournikova, known more for her off-court modeling than her on-court exploits, said she misses the “excitement of playing in front of 10,000 at the US Open,” but remains busy between the WTT tour and charity matches throughout the year.
