South of the Henday on 91st Street, Zaika boasts chic, Indo-urban design and food that would thrill a maharaja. Every element was sheer luxury, except for the prices. Go before they realize that the succulent dishes and phenomenal buffet are worth triple their $10 to $15 price tags!
Were I alone, I would have grabbed a tiffin box of buffet goodness for $12, but instead I fed my family of five for $40. The palak paneer’s ($9) tender cheese cubes in salty spinach sauce was fantastic, as was the flavour of the spicy rogan josh ($12) — though the lamb was a bit chewy. My unquestioned favourite, however, was the sweet heat of the tender mango curry chicken ($12).
Who am I kidding? Were I alone, I would have grazed at the buffet — featuring three kinds of naan bread — until they kicked me out! As it is, I’ll swing by Zaika any time I’m south of Whyte Avenue.
