Lebanese Festival starts

Singer Karl Wolf, lessons by a dance troupe and of course, the food — authentic Middle-Eastern dishes, including hummus, shawarmas, falafel, kafta and tabouleh — return to the grounds of St. Elias Cathedral as the Ottawa Lebanese Festival kicks off today.

Known for its food, entertainment and marketplace, the five-day festival is expected to draw tens of thousands of people to the church, located across the street from Mooney’s Bay Beach, through Sunday.

Other features on the main stage include Lebanese music and dancers. Those who want to try it themselves can take lessons from the Al Arz Dance Group.

After working up an appetite, dig into traditional Lebanese cuisine and relax in the traditional argily (shisha) tent with live entertainment nightly. The festival also features a marketplace with food and Lebanese crafts and a midway for the kids.
