Jon Lester couldn’t beat the Atlanta Braves in yesterday’s exhibition. But that was about the only bad news the young lefty heard all day.
The 27-year-old hurler, fresh off the best season of his career, was named the Red Sox’ opening day starter by Terry Francona.
April 1 will be the first time Lester toes the mound in the team’s first game.
“The talent and experience we have in this rotation, you can flip a coin,” Lester told reporters after hearing of the honor. “Anybody is worthy.”
