Liberals create hotline for budget concerns

The Alberta Liberals want citizens to have their say in legislature about the April 7 budget.

The Liberals have set up a toll-free phone number for Albertans to call in with their questions, concerns and comments and the best ones will be taken by the party into the budget session, party leader David Swann said.

“We just want to give a voice back to the people of Alberta and make sure they are heard,” Swann said yesterday at the Liberals’ Calgary office. “Albertans have the right and responsibility to offer the government their opinion.”

Swann said the party also wants to ensure the budget is more transparent and open to Albertans than it has been.

“A budget is one of the most important jobs of the government,” Swann said, adding especially during the tough economy it is important to be accountable.

The party will raise the concerns in the budget debates taking place through April and early May.

Albertans have the option of raising their concerns online at www.budget2009.ca or calling them on the Liberal hotline at 1-888-886-2834.
