Nova Scotia’s best lifeguards dipped their toes in the sand at Black Rock Beach in Halifax for some practice yesterday before they compete in World Lifesaving Championships next month.
The world-class lifesavers held one last practice before leaving for Alexandria, Egypt.
Audrey Prayal-Brown and Chris Goulet, both of Halifax, made it onto the national team of 12 lifeguards. They were selected to go to Egypt after competing in this summer’s national competitions in Montreal. “The most exciting (part) for me is actually meeting lifeguards from across the world, I’m really pumped to get to have that experience,” says Prayal-Brown.
Both Prayal-Brown and Goulet are longtime lifeguards who have been competing in lifesaving sport for a few years.
“It’s kind of like the track and field of lifeguarding sport because you have all these different events,” says 23 year-old Prayal-Brown, who holds a national record in the line-throw. Team Nova Scotia will be competing within the inter-club competition at the world championships, which run from October 2nd to 17th.
