A dozen livery cab drivers were outfitted on Monday with bulletproof vests.
The Federation of Taxi Drivers teamed up with New York firm Security USA to supply the drivers with the $400 vests. Drivers who get the vests work in areas like Brooklyn’s East New York, the South Bronx and Jamaica.
The initiative comes at a time when drivers have become victims in violent robberies. Last month, livery driver Julio Lora, 64, was paralyzed after being shot during a robbery in the Bronx.
