Living in a dog-bite-dog world

A Surrey RCMP police dog is recovering with stitches in his neck after being attacked by an unleashed pit bull during a roadside check.

Officers were inspecting a vehicle at 81 Avenue when a pit bull ran into the car and started attacking police dog Atos, according to RCMP.

Officers used pepper spray to get the pit bull under control.

“Our Police Service Dogs are a vital component of our operations,” said Sgt. Chris Moore with the Lower Mainland Police Dog Services.

“It is (pet owners’) responsibility to ensure their dogs are properly secured.”

The owner of the pit bull could face a fine of up to $2,000.
