Busy Bostonians rejoice, because in just a few short hours, ’round-the-clock booze, takeout, prescriptions, groceries, dry cleaning, and more will be just a download and a few clicks away.

Postmates, a courier service, is launching in Boston and Cambridge on Wednesday.

The San Francisco-based company describes itself as an “Uber for stuff” that will unlock the city’s inventory by connecting customers with a fleet of bike and car couriers to deliver anything in under an hour, 24 hours a day.

The app, available for iOS and Android, allows users to browse an inventory of thousands of restaurants and stores in their city, add items instantly, watch their rated “Postmate” [either a driver or bike messenger] moving on the map, and track their order status in real time. Deliveries start at $5 and users pay for everything within the app, eliminating the need for cash.
