Long Island crane owner sentenced to prison

A crane owner was sentenced yesterday to serve two to six years in prison for bribing New York City’s chief crane inspector.

Two crane collapses that killed nine people in 2008 led to investigations that uncovered the bribery. No accidents were attributed to Michael Sackaris’ Nu-Way Crane Service.

“We are fortunate that no one was directly injured by the defendant’s actions,” Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance said.

City crane inspector James Delayor was sentenced in June to two to six years for faking inspections and crane operator exams in exchange for bribes.
