Though police told Metro that no one has reported the cow, believed to be a young bull, missing as of yet, the New York Daily News reported that officials believe the calf escaped a Sunset Park slaughterhouse and ran the two miles to Prospect Park, where it knocked over a toddler after it was struck by a car before entering the park’s Parade Grounds, where it was eventually taken into custody.
The child, a 1-year-old girl, was taken to a local hospital, where she was treated for a busted lip and black eye, the Daily News reported.
According to the NYPD, the cow was first reported running wild through the streets of Brooklyn in the vicinity of 4th Avenue and 16th Street around 11 a.m. before it arrived at Prospect Park. Officers were chasing the loose cow on Coney Island Avenue, according to one Twitter user.
The bull was contained in the sports fields near Prospect Park West, and the NYPD’s Emergency Services Unit tranquilized the animal and was then able to secure a rope around its neck to lead it uninjured to a portable horse paddock, the department told Metro. He was taken to an Animal Care and Control center on Linden Boulevard.
