Ottawa’s most whimsical festival is back.
The month-long Lumière Festival culminates in the Evening of Light Celebration at Stanley Park in New Edinburgh this Saturday.
“The Lumière Festival is about celebrating light, lanterns and creativity,” said artistic producer Scott Florence. “It’s dedicated to uncovering the light within and exploring and fostering the creative spirit and connecting community members with each other.”
The seventh annual grassroots festival will feature hundreds of lanterns powered by candles and LEDs created by professional and amateur artists, all from the Ottawa area. Festivalgoers are encouraged to bring their creations to this event.
“The appeal of a glowing light in the darkness is universal,” said Florence. “The dark is something that humans have always struggled to overcome. A candle, a lantern, the soft glow in the darkness fills all of us with that sense of comfort, that sense of warmth, a sense of belonging, and a sense of universal connection.”
