Make your friends walk the plank into Boston Harbor

Walk the Plank

There are some precious goods being tossed into the Boston Harbor again, but we’re not talking tea anymore. Head over to the 2nd annual Walk the Plank fundraiser on June 7 to  watch 10 nominated individuals jump off a ship Blackbeard style. Attendees who won’t be making a splash can rest easy dockside with food, music and other entertainment at this charity event.

How it works

Walk the Plank raises money by offering a chance for a little revenge. Nominate friends (or yourself for those masochistic souls) online to be forced off of the Roseway into the frigid water below. After signing up, share on social media and get everyone to donate under the name of your desired victim. The 10 people with the highest contributions will be strutting their stuff off the plank on game day. A live leaderboard tracks walkers and how much money they have collected so far. For those less vengeful, general donations can also be made on the event’s website.

Help a good cause

Proceeds from the event will benefit the World Ocean School, which provides educational excursions to underserved children on the Roseway schooner. By integrating academics, the physical work of sailing a ship and emotional support activities, the organization aims to offer students a holistic learning opportunity only found on the high seas. Programs range from quick day trips around Boston to an annual, nine-week excursion down to San Juan, Puerto Rico with the Proctor Academy. The school is always accepting donations and offers various volunteer opportunities for those who want to test out their sea legs while also working for a great cause.
