A man shot by Ottawa police Wednesday evening along the southeast stretch of Highway 417 was allegedly fleeing the scene of an attempted murder in the rural west end, police said Thursday.
Police responded to a 9-1-1 call around 5:45 p.m. and found a 65-year-old man who was shot several times at a residence on Bear Hill Road west of Carp.
At around 6 p.m., patrol cars began pursuing a vehicle matching the description of that of the suspect on Highway 417 near Parkdale Avenue.
According to the Ontario Special Investigations Unit, three officers interacted with a man who got out of the car at Walkley Road. One officer fired at least one shot that struck the man. He was taken to hospital.
